RESEARCH INTERESTSMy research has primarily focused on questions related to bat behavior and biology. I am interested in how bats survive at northern latitudes given the short summers and short summer nights. In particular, I am interested in the timing of reproduction, foraging efficiency and foraging behaviour of Myotis lucifugus (little brown myotis) maternity colonies throughout Alaska and the Northwest Territories. My field methods often include acoustic surveys, mistnetting, and radio telemetry.
In general, I am interested in northern ecosystems and how various wildlife have carved out niches in these 'extreme' environments. I specialize in planning and executing fieldwork in remote settings, and using creative modes of transportation to achieve research goals.
